Well, i guess if the system disk goes, there is not much point...

To avoid filesystem errors on / however makes it worthwhile I hope...a 
read-only / (etc, bin, sbin, lib) would never suffer from filesystem 
errors due to a crash...disk errors yes but then that can be handled by 
RAID.
