I would assume that CentOS Java support is inherited from upstream, where
JPackage is the way to go.  That way you get support for more than just
Sun's JVM and, using alternatives, an easy way to switch between them.

Of course one could argue that Sun needs to get their act together. The
RPM to install the files where the rest of the distribution expects it,
not the other way around.
