Yep, I had that _exact_ mainboard.
82c686[A] was the PITA of ATA-4 UltraDMA mode 4 capable designs.
Even the early VT823x's were an improvement.

DMA timeouts were regular with different kernels, especially IBM (also
WD at the time) drives.
