In addition to me, two people have written to the
group recently about the nVIDIA problem. They can
vouch for the fact that there is sometimes a problem.=20
I agree that nVIDIA cards work for many people
(including for me, which I also wrote). But the fact
that they work for many people does not solve the
problem when one does not work with a specific
monitor. =20
This topic is near and dear to my heart, as I first
encountered the problem when I was trying to install
CentOS on machine with an nVIDIA card and using a
monitor with which nVIDIA cards do not work (my Mag
DX1495). At the beginning, I did not know that the
card was the problem, I only knew that the screen went
blank toward the end of the install. In addition to
trying to solve the problem by tweeking the XF86Config
file (boy, was that futile!), it literally took me
hours of parts swapping, distribution swapping, and OS
swapping (trying Windows too), to finally figure out
that the nVIDIA card was the problem. (Some might say
that the card/monitor combination was the problem, but
Windows has no problem with the combination.)
Maybe my frustration with nVIDIA cards shows, and as a
result, my emails on this topic are easily
misinterpreted. =20

I use pure-ftpd. I've found this ftp server to be the easiest and most=20
secure to set-up for Redhat systems. Go to:
http://www.pureftpd.org/
The Redhat binary (rpm) version can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.pureftpd.org/pub/pure-ftpd/releases/binaries/redhat/
You'll probably want the "i686" version.
Install the rpm package (you'll need to be root to do this):
# rpm -Uvh pure-ftpd-1.0.19-1.i686.rpm
And that's it.

First of all, make sure the vsftpd package is installed and running.
(rpm -q vsftpd)
If it's not, it'll be on your install media or can easily be acquired=20
with "yum -y install vsftpd"
Then do "service vsftpd start" to start the FTP server.
Are you just trying to prove the concept today, or do you need your=20
user to be able to upload files to the document root right now?
If the former, simply create a new user account and set a password=20
for it. The vsftpd server will immediately allow logins to the=20
users' home directory with their username/password. Any files placed=20
in public_html/ in a home directory should be automatically mapped by=20
apache to httpd://[server.dom.ain]/~[userid]/. If you need to upload=20
files directly to the document root, things get a little more=20
complicated, and there's more than one approach depending on how=20
security-conscious you need to be.

We prefer to nvidia cards with CentOS-2. I have never had the problem=20
of a monitor not being detected, though if you have tv out and no=20

As you can see from the other posts, ftp is tricky. Someone already=20
suggested that you use scp/ssh which is what I would recommend. There=20
is a decent windows program called winscp which is similar to windows=20
ftp programs.
There is also a command line tool from putty called pscp.
When it comes to NAT, you need to look at both the internal and =
external=20
networks separately.
Firstly, assuming you want the external network (The internet) to=20
connect to your web server, you need to allow port 80. If you want the =
external network to talk to your ssh server (for scp) then you need =
port=20
22 as well.
If ssh is only for internal then you don't need to worry about NAT.
Also (AFAIK) if you are using NAT then there should be a 1 to 1 mapping =
from internal to external IP addresses, in which case it is quite =
likely=20
that all ports are translated and forwarded anyway. If you mean you=20
have a 1 to many (Only one IP on the internet) then you need to =
nominate=20
which IP of the many to forward connections to (port forwarding).
None of this has anything to do with a command line and everything to =
do=20
with reading the manuals/FAQs/HOWTOs etc.

Subject: [Centos] HOWTO? Upgrade Centos-2 to Centos-3
I've been Googling on this all day, installing GPG Keys, and trying
different yum configurations. I noticed a similar question in the list =

couple of months ago about going from RHEL to Centos-3, but the answer
wasn't definitive.
Has anyone done this? Can this be done? Can it be done with yum? If =
so,
how?
When I 'yum update' I get /usr/bin/yum, yummain.main, yummain.py,
clientStuff.py errors, and a "ValueError: unpack list of wrong size"
error.
Would definitely appreciate any direction.
