What I did to get the updates was to issue these commands as root:

wget http://caos.nplus1.net/centos-3/3.3/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/centos-release-3.3-1.i386.rpm

rpm -Uvh centos-release-3.3-1.i386.rpm

yum upgrade
