I have freshly installed CentOS 7.5 on a Dell server, and /etc/yum/vars/contentdir
contains 'altarch' too. CentOS 7.4->7.5 upgraded servers have 'centos'.

I see in %post:
/usr/bin/uname -m | grep -q 'x86_64' && echo 'centos' >/etc/yum/vars/contentdir || echo 'altarch' > /etc/yum/vars/contentdir

can you please check

/usr/bin/uname -m

on your system?
