It should be: tools/misc/mktarball $PWD If you do the above command, you'll end up with a release-looking tarball, rather than one with the git commit ID in the name. Also NB, two things: * The "src-tarball" build target (and the mktarball script) is not available in the normal 4.4 tree; it's a draft of a bit of functionality I'm in the process if pushing upstream.
