I totally agree with Russ on the technical discussion. CPAN is VERY
limited in 'package management' and just a simple installer. It does
not make sense to use it on a system that provides very good package
management infrastructure.

Jim blogged some advices about source installs recently:

'If you need perl modules, DO NOT use CPAN, as that will most likely
break your perl installation. Please try to package the perl module
with either cpan2rpm or use the spec template for perl modules from
fedora-rpmdevtools. Same goes for python.'
