Human Cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1)

Local, state, and federal public health officials identified 38 human cases of H5N1 bird flu in California; 37 cases were in dairy farm workers with occupational exposure to sick cows, and one case in a child with an undetermined exposure. This is the first pediatric case of H5N1 bird flu reported in the United States.
