CDC A(H5N1) Bird Flu Response Update  

CDC shares USDA report on the first U.S. case of H5 bird flu in a pig and updates on ongoing outreach efforts. The report also shows two new human cases of H5 bird flu in Washington, four new in California, and one linked to the Washington poultry outbreak, totaling 44 confirmed human cases of H5 in the United States. CDC believes the risk to the general public from H5 bird flu remains low.

New CDC MMWR Shows Higher Flu Hospitalization Rates in Older Adults, Young Children, and Some Ethnic/Racial Minority Groups 

A new CDC MMWR shows flu hospitalization rates varied significantly across seasons from 2010–2023 with a notable decline in flu hospitalization rates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Flu hospitalization rates returned to pre-pandemic levels by 2022–2023. Adults aged ≥65 years, young children, and certain minority groups consistently had higher flu hospitalization rates compared with others.
