Mpox Surveillance Based on Rash Characteristics

Among 196 emergency department patients who had an mpox-like rash during June–December 2023, three cases were identified. All cases occurred among unvaccinated gay and bisexual men who have sex with men.

• Cases of Meningococcal Disease Associated with Travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah Pilgrimage

  Twelve cases of meningococcal disease (5 U.S., 4 France, 3 U.K.) were associated with travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah pilgrimage.

• Notes from the Field: Anthrax on a Sheep Farm in Winter

  A Texas rancher developed anthrax after butchering a sheep later determined to be infected with anthrax.
