Cigarette Smoking Among Pregnant Women During the Perinatal Period: Prevalence and Health Care Provider Inquiries

One in 20 women reported smoking during pregnancy and more than half quit during pregnancy. One in 13 women reported smoking after delivery. Almost all women were asked about smoking at prenatal visits. However, only 3 in 5 were asked at their postpartum checkup.

• Emergency Department Visits for Pedestrians Injured in Motor Vehicle Traffic Crashes

  The percentage of emergency department visits for traffic-related pedestrian injuries was highest among people from racial and ethnic minority groups.

• Prevalence of Positive Childhood Experiences Among Adults

  Overall, about half of adults experienced at least six positive childhood experiences, while about 1 in 8 adults experienced two or fewer.

• Notes from the Field: Increase in Nontoxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae

  Investigators identified an increase in reported nontoxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae cases in Washington state over the span of five years.
