SARS-CoV-2 Viral Shedding and Rapid Antigen Test Performance

Polymerase chain reaction (lab) tests were more sensitive and more likely to detect SARS-CoV-2 than antigen tests (home or clinic).

• Use of Ebola Vaccines — Worldwide, 2021–2023

  Of the 145,690 doses shipped from the global Ebola vaccine stockpile through 2023, 95% (139,120) have been repurposed for preventive vaccination.

• Investigation of Presumptive HIV Transmission Associated with Receipt of Platelet-Rich Plasma Microneedling Facials at a Spa Among Former Spa Clients

  An investigation of multiple HIV infections among people with no known HIV risk factors who received microneedling at the same unlicensed New Mexico spa revealed likely HIV transmission associated with cosmetic injection services.

• Use of an Additional Updated 2023–2024 COVID-19 Vaccine Dose for Adults Aged ≥65 Years: Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices

  In February 2024, CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended that adults aged 65 and older receive an additional dose of the updated 2023–24 COVID-19 vaccine.

• Notes from the Field: Group A Streptococcus Bacteremia in Persons Who Inject Drugs

  The University of Vermont Medical Center investigated a 900% increase over 2 years in blood infections caused by group A Streptococcus. Seventy percent of infections were in people who currently or previously injected illicit drugs.

• QuickStats: Percentage of Employed Adults Aged ≥18 Years Who Slept <7 Hours per 24-Hour Period, by Sex and Number of Working Hours per Week — United States, 2022
