Seasonal influenza activity remains elevated nationally but is decreasing. Five flu-related deaths in children were reported this week, bringing the total reported this season to 126. CDC continues to recommend flu vaccination at this time.

Human Infection with an Influenza Virus from Pigs, First in US in 2024

On March 29, 2024, CDC reported the first U.S. human infection this year with an influenza A(H1N2) variant (v) virus that normally circulates in pigs. This infection was detected in a person living near a pig farm in Pennsylvania who had direct contact with pigs. The person was hospitalized and has since recovered from their illness. No person-to-person spread of this virus has been identified.
