Release Notes: This release includes updates for all vaccine codes and maps plus a CVX to VIS crosswalk update for the Vaccine Information Statements (VIS).
General note regarding this release: Codes with “Last Update” dates after December 21, 2023, and before January 31, 2024, reflect the changes and additions in this release. This release includes the following code set updates:
- New anthrax vaccine CVX code 318 added for CYFENDUS
- New NDCs added and associated to existing CVX maps
- New CPT to CVX map added
- Minor editing updates to CVX description fields
- Other changes to NDCs
Vaccine Code Set Updates – Details
1. New anthrax vaccine CVX code 318 added for CYFENDUS
This new CVX code differentiates the CYFENDUS vaccine formulation from the Biothrax formulation (CVX 24). All previous associations for the CYFENDUS product to CVX 24 have been removed. Associations and descriptions for CVX Code 24 have been updated. CYFENDUS is available through the US Strategic National Stockpile.
All anthrax CVX codes are associated with vaccine group ANTHRAX. The following CVX codes have been added or updated.
Note: CVX code 24 should continue to be used for historic records when the precise vaccine formulation administered is not known. A new unspecified code may be added in a subsequent vaccine code set release.

3. New CPT to CVX map added
CPT code 90714 was previously only mapped to CVX 09. Thus, the CVX code supported only NDCs for thVAX vaccines. CDC generally tries to map each CPT code to only one CVX code. Since there is only one active CPT code for th vaccines, in this case, this resulted in no CPT to CVX map for the Tenivac vaccines associated to CVX 113.
As has been done with the new anthrax CPT to CVX mapping shown above, a second map to CPT 90714 has been added:

4. Minor editing updates to CVX description fields
Minor changes were made to CVX code description fields to remove extra or trailing spaces or to correct capitalization.
The following CVX codes show recent dates of last update that reflect these changes:
- 186, 204, 210, 304,316, 503, 508, 521.
In addition, a change was made to internal (not published) fields for CVX 171 which also updated its date of last update.

In addition to the code updates and retired NDCs cited above, several Unit of Use and Unit of Sale NDCs in the vaccine code set show dates of last update in January. These are due to minor changes on the FDA files or internal fields updated by CDC that are not reflected in the files CDC publishes but do update the date of last update in the CDC code set database.
