Second Nationwide Tuberculosis Outbreak Caused by Bone Allografts Containing Live Cells

In July 2023, CDC was alerted to a potential tuberculosis (TB) disease outbreak from surgical procedures using bone allograft material contaminated with TB bacteria.

Among the tuberculosis (TB) programs in California that responded to the survey and reported one or more TB cases during 2016-2021, 64% experienced a delay in availability or unavailability of any oral first-line TB drug.
