Trends in the Prevalence of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Among Adults Aged ≥18 Years

From 2011 to 2021, rates of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease remained stable, with more than 1 in 20 U.S. adults reporting this disease in 2021.

An employee working in a Massachusetts cannabis cultivation and processing facility died of a fatal asthma attack.

• Progress Toward Measles Elimination
  

Measles outbreaks and deaths increased globally in 2022 as vaccination rates remained low.

• Vital Signs: Missed Opportunities for Preventing Congenital Syphilis
  

In 2022, more than 3,700 babies were born with syphilis, over 10 times the number reported in 2012. Among people whose newborn was born with syphilis, 40% did not get prenatal care.

• Notes from the Field: Surveillance of Silicosis Using Electronic Case Reporting
  

California Department of Public Health used electronic case reporting and its component, the Reportable Conditions Knowledge Management System, to identify cases of silicosis in California.

El Paso (Colorado) County Public Health initiated active surveillance at all local hospitals after being informed by a single hospital of three cases of invasive pneumococcal disease among people experiencing homelessness.
