Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

Flu activity remains low nationally but continues to slightly increase in most parts of the country. Flu hospitalizations also increased, and three pediatric deaths were reported this week. Two of these pediatric deaths were from last season, and one is the first reported flu pediatric death of the 2023-2024 season. CDC recommends flu vaccination as the best way to reduce your risk from flu and its potentially serious complications.

CDC Publishes First Weekly U.S. Forecasts of Flu Hospitalizations

This week CDC posted its first FluSight forecasts for the season. The forecasts suggest the number of new laboratory-confirmed flu hospital admissions will remain stable or have an uncertain trend nationally, with 990 to 5,100 admissions likely reported during the week ending November 18. CDC coordinates weekly forecasts based on data from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
