Release Notes: This release includes updates for Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) codes and maps.
Release notes are designed as a guide to highlight changes that have been made to the vaccine codes since the last publication. They should not be used as the primary source of code information. The vaccine code files themselves should be utilized.
VIS Code Set Updates
The release includes the following VIS Updates:
- New VIS document has been created for mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines used for ages 12 years and older.
- The new document title is “COVID-19 Vaccine VIS – mRNA vaccine for ages 12 years and older” and it has an edition date of October 19, 2023.
- VIS codes have been updated to include this document.
- An updated VIS document has been added to replace the existing RSV Vaccine VIS
- The updated document title is “RSV Vaccine VIS” and has an updated edition date of October 19, 2023.
- The GDTI and URLs have not changed
- The previous RSV Vaccine VIS document with edition date 7/24/2023 has been retired and marked as historic in our code set files.
- VIS codes have been updated to include the updated document.
The above updates impact the following three VIS code files:

VIS Code Set Update Details
- New first edition added: “COVID-19 Vaccine VIS - mRNA vaccine for 12 years and older”, dated 10/19/2023. This first edition VIS is for COVID-19 vaccines authorized under BLA license.
In the code set files, the following has been added for the new VIS edition record:
- VIS Document Title: “COVID-19 Vaccine VIS - mRNA vaccine for 12 years and older”
- New document identifier, “VIS Fully-encoded text string”: 253088698300063911231019

Updated RSV Vaccine VIS
The existing RSV Vaccine VIS with edition date of 07/24/2023 has been retired and a new RSV Vaccine VIS has been created leveraging the same GDTI and URLs. The new VIS, “RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) Vaccine VIS” has an edition date of 10/19/2023.
In the code set files, the following has been added for the new VIS edition record:

The following new EUA Fact Sheet codes have been added to the VIS Code Set tables. The new documents supersede the prior EUA Fact Sheets for this manufacturer.
The table on CDC’s COVID-19 Related Vaccine Codes website: “COVID-19 Emergency Use Authorization Recipient and Caregiver Fact Sheets,” has also been updated to reflect these changes.
