Human Infection with Avian Influenza A(H3N8) Virus Reported by China

A third human infection with avian influenza A(H3N8) virus and first death was reported in China on March 27, 2023. The patient was an adult from Guangdong Province with multiple underlying medical conditions. They were hospitalized and later died. Based on what is currently known, this human case of H3N8 virus infection is not thought to pose a risk to the health of the U.S. public at this time.

Vaccination Week in the Americas 2023

From April 22-29, 2023, the Pan American Health Organization, together with the Region of the Americas and its partners, will celebrate the 21st annual Vaccination Week in the Americas and the 12th World Immunization Week to promote routine vaccinations. NCIRD director Dr. José R. Romero will be participating in a Q&A session on the importance of vaccines, including flu vaccine, on April 25.
