2) Monkeypox vaccine CVX Code updated

On 8/9/2022 the FDA issued an EUA to allow intradermal administration of the JYNNEOS monkeypox vaccine in addition to the subcutaneous administration allowed under the BLA license. The FDA EUA and Recipient Fact Sheets can be found on the FDA site as follows:

EUA for Monkeypox JYNNEOS vaccine: Monkeypox Update: FDA Authorizes Emergency Use of JYNNEOS Vaccine to Increase Vaccine Supply | FDA

Recipient Fact Sheet: Final Fact Sheet Monkeypox Jynneos 07292022 (fda.gov).

CDC resources for Monkeypox include:

The following vaccine code set updates have been made in this release to CVX Code 206 to address the new EUA for JYNNEOS:

  • CVX Code 206 has been updated to support this additional administration option and to identify non-US tradenames for the JYNNEOS vaccine.  The following fields have been updated:
    • CVX Code Description (long): "Vaccinia, smallpox monkeypox vaccine, live attenuated, preservative free, subcutaneous or intradermal injection"
    • CVX Code Description (short): "Vaccinia, smallpox monkeypox vaccine live, PF, SQ or ID injection"
    • CVX Note field: "Associated to FDA US Licensed product JYNNEOS, non-US tradenames IMVANEX, IMVAMUNE. Review CDC & FDA guidance for updates regarding administration"

Vaccine Group "Vaccinia" name change:

  • The name for the vaccine group associated to both the monkeypox and smallpox vaccines has been changed from "VACCINIA" to "Orthopoxvirus".  This will broaden and better represent the related viruses in this group.  This is a modification to the existing vaccine group record.  All CVX code associations to this vaccine group remain the same.

3) Seasonal Influenza Vaccines

  • New 2022/2023 Seasonal Influenza Vaccines Additional vaccine codes for the 2022/2023 seasonal influenza vaccines have been added as shown in Table 3 below.  Also updated is the website table "2022/2023 Seasonal Influenza Codes and Crosswalk".  The table is available on the CDC website using the following link:  https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/programs/iis/code-sets.html
