MMWR Series Receives Updated Journal Impact Factor and Scimago Journal Rank

CDC’s MMWR Series received new 2021 Journal Impact Factors, which are based on the average number of 2021 citations in the scientific literature of reports published in 2019 and 2020.

  • Recommendations and Reports: 36.3
  • Weekly: 35.3
  • Surveillance Summaries: 29.1

The Weekly’s Journal Impact Factor increased from 17.6 in 2020, which assessed citations of reports published in 2018 and 2019. During 2021, there was an average of nearly 18 more citations per report published in 2019 and 2020. This is a result of MMWR’s role in rapidly publishing COVID-19 science to inform policy and guide practice.

This figure is an infographic describing MMWR’s Journal Impact Factors for 2021. The impact factors were 36.3 for Recommendations and Reports, 35.3 for Weekly reports, and 29.1 for Surveillance Summaries.

Additionally, Scimago Journal Rank recently ranked MMWR Recommendations and Reports 5th, Weekly 24th, and Surveillance Summaries 62nd out of 27,339 journals evaluated in 2021. Often called “the voice of CDC,” MMWR remains an important publication for timely and accurate science and recommendations for public health action.
