WEEKLY REPORT

The figure is a graphic explaining symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke using icons to represent each symptom. The symptoms of heat exhaustion are dizziness, nausea, and weakness. To treat heat exhaustion drink water, move to cooler, air-conditioned, or shaded space. The symptoms of heatstroke are confusion, throbbing headache, and unconsciousness; for heat stroke call 911, loosen or dampen clothing, use cool compress on forehead and neck.


Extreme Heat Exposure: Access and Barriers to Cooling Centers — Maricopa and Yuma Counties, Arizona, 2010–2020

Heat exposure and heat-related illness increased in Maricopa and Yuma counties, Arizona, during 2010–2020. Heat-related hospitalizations were higher among adults aged ≥65 years than those aged <65 years. Barriers to cooling center access among older adults include awareness of location and transportation.
