Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

CDC's Influenza Division compiles and analyzes information on influenza activity year-round in the United States. According to this week's FluView report (March 13-19), flu activity is increasing in most of the country. Activity is highest in the central and south-central parts of the country right now.

Protective Actions for People to Protect Against Bird Flu

The best way to prevent bird flu is to avoid exposure to infected birds or surfaces contaminated by them. If possible, avoid direct contact with wild birds and observe them only from a distance. Wild birds can be infected even if they don’t look sick. People should avoid unprotected contact with live poultry and shouldn’t touch surfaces that might be contaminated with bird saliva, mucous or feces.

Celebrate a #HealthShero During Women’s History Month

In honor of Women’s History Month, CDC recognizes women who work to protect the public against flu. Lynnette Brammer is the lead of CDC’s Domestic Influenza Surveillance Team. Her team tracks flu activity in the U.S each week and prepares a summary report called FluView, which ensures that the public and providers have timely information to make informed decisions on flu prevention and treatment.

A CDC web spotlight summarizes recent increases in #flu activity, which have happened across most of the country. This is an unusual time for flu activity to be increasing, and it is unclear how long increases will continue. https://bit.ly/3uw2DOg
