What CDC is Doing to Respond to Recent Bird Flu Outbreaks
CDC has been analyzing the characteristics of H5N1 bird flu viruses recently found in U.S. wild birds & poultry. Data suggest that human infections with these viruses can be detected with existing seasonal flu public health tests & would be susceptible to available flu antiviral drugs. Finally, CDC already has a candidate vaccine virus that could be used to produce a vaccine for people if needed.
