Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Found in Commercial Poultry Facility
Following detections of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) viruses in wild birds in the U.S., the U.S. Department of Agriculture this week reported an HPAI outbreak in a commercial poultry flock. CDC considers the current health risk to the general public from these HPAI detections to be low, but guidance is available for poultry producers, hunters, health care providers, and the general public.
In recent seasons, about half of adults hospitalized with flu had heart disease, and severe heart complications occurred in one out of every eight hospitalized flu patients.
