Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report 

CDC's most recent FluView report (January 2 – January 8), shows that influenza activity declined slightly from the previous week, but remains elevated. CDC also reported the third pediatric flu death of the 2021-2022 season.

Vaccine Effectiveness Against Life-Threatening Influenza Illness in US Children       

A new CDC study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases showed that flu vaccination protected children against serious flu illness even when they were infected with a flu virus that was antigenically different from the vaccine virus.

Preliminary In-Season Burden Estimates    

CDC’s domestic burden estimates have now been updated from October 1, 2021 through January 8, 2022. The latest estimates suggest that at last 970 people have died and 16,000 have been hospitalized from flu this season.
