Early, Low Estimates for Flu Vaccination Coverage in Children and Pregnant People
CDC’s first estimates for flu vaccine uptake among children and pregnant people so far this flu season are lower compared to the same time last season. Estimates show a 8-percentage point drop in flu vaccination coverage among children and a 16-percentage point drop among pregnant people. This is concerning because people in these groups can be at higher risk of serious flu complications.
CDC Update on A(H5N6) Bird Flu Infections in China The number of H5N6 bird flu infections found in people doubled in 2021, raising concerns about its pandemic potential. A recent review of data indicated that an existing H5 candidate vaccine virus would protect against these viruses should vaccination be needed, and current antivirals would be effective against these viruses. CDC is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed.
