Vaccine Code Set Update Publication Date: October 15, 2021

Release Notes: 

This is a limited code set release that includes only updates to the CPT to CVX map file.  The files updated for this release can be found at: IIS | Code Sets | CPT | Vaccines | CDC

 

Release notes are designed as a guide to highlight changes that have been made to the vaccine codes since the last publication. They should not be used as the primary source of code information. The vaccine code files themselves should be utilized.

1. COVID-19 Related Code Updates
   • The following COVID-19 related change has been made to the CPT to CVX map files:
     • Added: CPT Code 91307, “Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (coronavirus disease [COVID-19]) vaccine, mRNA-LNP, spike protein, preservative free, 10 mcg/0.2 mL dosage, diluent reconstituted, tris-sucrose formulation, for intramuscular use” has been added and mapped to CVX Code 218, “COVID-19, mRNA, LNP-S, PF, 10 mcg/0.2 mL dose, tris-sucrose” to reflect the potential Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to <12

2. Vaccine Code Set Updates Not Related to COVID-19
   • The following changes have been made to the CPT to CVX map files:
     • Retired CPT to CVX map:  CPT Code 90718, “Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids (Td) adsorbed when administered to individuals 7 years or older, for intramuscular use” is retired.  The map to CVX code 09, “Td (adult), 2 Lf tetanus toxoid, preservative free, adsorbed” is retired and has been removed from the current map file.
     • Retired CPT to CVX map:  CPT Code 90714, “Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids adsorbed (Td), preservative free, when administered to individuals 7 years or older, for intramuscular use” previous map to CVX code 196, “Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids adsorbed (Td), preservative free, when administered to individuals 7 years or older, for intramuscular use”  has been retired and removed from the current map file.  No NDC codes are mapped to CVX 196.
     • Remapped: CPT Code 90714, “Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids adsorbed (Td), preservative free, when administered to individuals 7 years or older, for intramuscular use” has been remapped to CVX Code 09, “Td (adult), 2 Lf tetanus toxoid, preservative free, adsorbed”.  All Td vaccine NDC codes are currently mapped to CVX Code 09.
