Flu Illnesses Is Underrecognized in Peripartum Hospitalizations
A CDC study found that 1 in 5 acute respiratory illnesses among pregnant people hospitalized for delivery during flu season were caused by flu.
Half of flu infections were detected by testing conducted for the study and likely would have been missed otherwise. Screening for respiratory symptoms before delivery can increase the use of precautions during hospitalization to prevent spread of infection.
CDC Study Finds Recombinant Flu Vaccines May Elicit More Robust Immune Response
CDC researchers found that compared with egg-based vaccines, vaccination with a recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV4) provided improved antibody responses against three of four vaccine viruses at one month after vaccination. More study is needed to understand if these findings translate to enhanced protection.
