Vaccine manufacturers have projected that they will supply as many as 188 to 200 million doses of influenza vaccine for the 2021-2022 season. These projections may change as the season progresses. All vaccines produced for the 2021-2022 flu season will be quadrivalent (four component) and most (87%) will be thimerosal-free or thimerosal-reduced vaccine. About 18% of flu vaccines will be egg-free.
CDC Review Article Shows Flu Vaccination Can Reduce the Severity of Flu Illness
A new CDC review found that among adults, flu vaccination was associated with a 26 percent lower risk of flu-related ICU admission and a 31 percent lower risk of flu-related death. These findings provide more evidence that even if people who are vaccinated still get sick with flu, their illness may be less severe. CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine every year.
