First Reported Human Infections with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N8) Virus in Russia
On Feb. 18, 2021, the Russian Federation reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) the 1st human infections with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N8) virus among seven poultry plant workers in Russia who were tested in December as part of an HPAI A(H5N8) outbreak investigation in poultry. CDC continues to monitor the situation. At present, the risk for human-to-human spread of this virus appears low.
