Be Antibiotics Aware

Antibiotic resistance is one of the most urgent threats to the public’s health. Antibiotic resistance happens when germs, like bacteria and fungi, develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to kill them. That means the germs are not killed and continue to grow.

Holiday Turkey Tips

Planning a holiday celebration? See CDC’s considerations to help protect you, your family, and friends from COVID-19. Handling poultry (chickens and turkey) incorrectly and undercooking it are the most common problems that lead to foodborne disease outbreaks linked to poultry.

Uncontrolled Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes repeated seizures. About 3.4 million people in the United States have active epilepsy – that means a doctor has told them they have epilepsy and they are currently taking medicine for it or that they have had at least one seizure in the last year.

Family Health History

Has your mother or sister had breast cancer? Does your mother, father, sister, or brother have diabetes? Did your mother, father, brother, or sister have colorectal (colon) cancer before age 50? If you answered “yes,” you are more likely to get the same disease as your parent or sibling and should consider earlier screening.

Prevent Norovirus

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water
  • especially after using the toilet or changing diapers
  • always before eating, preparing, or handling food, and
  • before giving yourself or someone else medicine.

ATSDR Stories from the Field
