CDC, NFID, and Dr. Fauci Encourage Everyone to Get a Flu Vaccine

At a virtual press conference hosted by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, Dr. Fauci and other public health experts urged everyone to get a flu vaccine this year. CDC data on flu vaccination showed that overall flu vaccination coverage during 2019-2020 was 52%. CDC estimates that last season flu vaccination prevented 7.5 million flu illnesses, 105,000 hospitalizations, and 6,300 deaths.

Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups are at Increased Risk for Flu Hospitalization

CDC released new data showing that since 2009, non-Hispanic Black, non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native, and Hispanic or Latino persons have had a higher flu-related hospitalization rate compared to non-Hispanic White persons. There are vaccination coverage disparities among these groups as well.
