Influenza remains a serious threat to children due to its potential to cause significant illness and death. This season 174 flu-related pediatric deaths have been reported to CDC. This number is high compared to recent seasons but remains lower than the record high of 188 flu deaths in children reported as occurring during the 2017-2018 season.
CDC, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) recommend that all U.S. health care workers get vaccinated annually against flu. Health care workers can get flu from patients and coworkers who are sick. By getting vaccinated for flu this upcoming season, you help protect yourself, your family, and your patients.
Among children who died from flu who were eligible for a #fluvaccine this season, only about 20% were fully vaccinated, consistent with past seasons. Learn more: https://go.usa.gov/xvMMW
