Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

CDC's Influenza Division produces a weekly influenza surveillance report, FluView. According to this week's report (Feb 3-9), seasonal flu activity increased in the United States. New York City and 26 states experienced high influenza-like illness (ILI) activity. CDC estimates that flu has caused as many as 17.8 million flu illnesses, 221,000 hospitalizations and 19,000 deaths so far this season.

Interim Estimates of 2018-19 Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness According to CDC’s recent MMWR, early vaccine effectiveness (VE) estimates show that so far the 2018-19 seasonal flu vaccine has reduced the risk of getting sick and having to go to the doctor by about half. Estimates were particularly good for children who got vaccinated. Learn More
