CDC's Influenza Division produces a weekly influenza surveillance report, FluView. According to this week's report (Dec 23-29), seasonal influenza activity has continued to increase in the United States. New York City and 19 states experienced high influenza-like illness (ILI) activity.

The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like flu. There also are flu antiviral drugs that can be used to treat flu.
