Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

CDC's Influenza Division produces a weekly influenza surveillance report, FluView. According to this week's report (Dec 10-Dec 16), seasonal influenza activity increased sharply in the United States. Ten states (AL, AR, AK, KY, LA, MS, NV, OK, SC & TX) experienced high Influenza Like Illness (ILI) activity levels. Puerto Rico and eight states (CA, GA, IL, KS, MI, NE, OR, WV) experienced moderate ILI activity.

Influenza Activity Increasing

According to CDC's recent MMWR, influenza A(H3N2) viruses have been predominant in the United States this season. In the past, H3N2-predominant seasons have been associated with greater severity, especially among young children and older adults. Flu is difficult to predict. It's not yet possible to say how severe the season will be or if H3N2 will continue to predominate.
