Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report

​​CDC’s Influenza Division collects, compiles, and analyzes information on influenza activity year-round in the U.S. and produces FluView, a weekly influenza surveillance report. During week 13, ending April 1, influenza activity decreased in the United States, however, widespread influenza activity was still reported by Puerto Rico and 24 states.

Flu Vaccine Effectiveness Against Pediatric Deaths

A recently released CDC study recently released in Pediatrics examined the effectiveness of the flu vaccine to prevent laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated death among children, and shows that flu vaccination significantly reduced a child’s risk of dying from influenza. The findings underscore the importance for every child 6 months and older to get an annual flu vaccine, especially children at high risk of flu complications.
