Congenital microcephaly has been a hallmark of intrauterine infection with Zika virus. However, despite the absence of microcephaly at birth, 13 infants born in Brazil with laboratory evidence of Zika virus infection during October 2015–January 2016 had brain abnormalities associated with congenital Zika syndrome.
