Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children in the United States. Age- and size-appropriate restraint use is an effective way to prevent motor vehicle–related injuries and deaths. This report summarizes 2005–2008 data from the Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System to describe the pattern of motor vehicle crashes, medical outcomes, and hospital charges among children aged 1–12 years by type of restraint and seating position.
