Overdose deaths have increased steadily over the past decade. In 2010, a total of 15,323 deaths among women were attributed to drug overdose, a rate of 9.8 per 100,000 population. CDC analyzed rates of fatal drug overdoses and drug misuse- or abuse-related emergency department visits among women using data from the National Vital Statistics System (1999–2010) and the Drug Abuse Warning Network (2004–2010). This report describes the results of that analysis. |
