Use of Selected Clinical Preventive Services Among Adults — United States, 2007–2010: Breast Cancer Screening Among Adult Women
In 2010, an estimated 75.4% women aged ≥40 years and 79.7% of women aged 50–74 years reported having a mammogram within the past 2 years. Women who reported the highest prevalence of mammography use were those aged 60–69 years (81.3%) and 70–74 years (82.4%), non-Hispanic blacks (78.6%), those with college graduate or higher level of education (80.8%), those whose annual household income was ≥$75,000 (83.8%), those with health insurance (78.6%), and those with a usual source of health care (78.3%).

Breaking the Silence: Public Health’s Role in Intimate Partner Violence Prevention
This session of Grand Rounds explored Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), a serious, preventable public health problem that affects millions of Americans. The term "intimate partner violence" describes physical, sexual, or psychological harm caused by a current or former partner or spouse.  IPV can vary in frequency and severity.

Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance — United States, 2011
Results from the 2011 national YRBS indicated that many high school students are engaged in priority health-risk behaviors associated with the leading causes of death among persons aged 10–24 years in the United States. Variations were observed in many health-risk behaviors by sex, race/ethnicity, and grade.

Update to CDC’s U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use, 2010: Revised Recommendations for the Use of Hormonal Contraception Among Women at High Risk for HIV Infection or Infected with HIV
This report summarizes CDC’s assessment of the evidence regarding hormonal contraceptive use and the risk for HIV acquisition, transmission, and disease progression and the resulting updated guid­ance. These updated recommendations affirm the previous guidance, which stated that 1) the use of hormonal contracep­tives, including combined hormonal contraceptives, progestin-only pills, depot medroxyprogesterone acetate, and implants, is safe for women at high risk for HIV infection or infected with HIV (US MEC category 1), and 2) all women who use contraceptive methods other than condoms should be counseled regarding the use of condoms and the risk for sexually transmitted infections.

Update: Influenza Activity — United States, 2011–12 Season and Composition of the 2012–13 Influenza Vaccine
This report summarizes influenza activity in the United States during the 2011–12 influenza season (October 2, 2011–May 19, 2012) and reports the recommendations for the components of the 2012–13 Northern Hemisphere influenza vaccine.

Estimated Pregnancy Rates and Rates of Pregnancy Outcomes for the United States, 1990–2008
In 2008, an estimated 6,578,000 pregnancies resulted in 4,248,000 live births, 1,212,000 induced abortions, and 1,118,000 fetal losses.  Pregnancy rates have declined significantly for non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, and Hispanic teenagers.

In 2008, no changes occurred in the rank order of the 10 leading causes of death among women compared with 2007.

Deaths: Final Data for 2009 (pdf)
Death rates among females declined for the age groups less than 1 year, 55-64, 65-74, 75-84, and 85 years and over. For females, the death rate increased for ages 25-34 and 45-54 years.

Obesity Prevention Programs-Statewide Collaboratives to Improve Nutrition, Breastfeeding Support, Physical Activity and Screen Time Practices for Obesity Prevention in Young Children financed solely by 2012 Prevention and Public Health Funds  [CDC-RFA-DP12-1215PPHF12]
As part of the overall effort to increase obesity prevention efforts, CDC announces the opportunity to apply for funds to improve the quality of obesity prevention practices in early childhood education (ECE) facilities by providing opportunities to ensure equitable access to ECE services that meet the national Preventing Childhood Obesity (PCO) (2nd Ed.) standard components related to nutrition, breastfeeding support, physical activity, and screen time, all of which are key areas for obesity prevention. Closing Date: July 17, 2012
