In today’s Safe Healthcare Blog, Dr. Glen R. Stream of the American Academy of Family Physicians discusses how we can all have a happy and healthy holiday season by ensuring that our holiday visitors keep their medicines and vitamins Up and Away and Out of Sight of children while in your home.
Many parents may not realize the dangers that medications and vitamins may pose to their little ones, but more than 60,000 young children in the U.S. end up in emergency rooms each year because they take these pills or liquids when an adult isn't watching. Unfortunately, such incidents may occur during the holidays when grandparents and other relatives are in the home.
A new CDC educational program -- Up and Away and Out of Sight – reminds parents of simple steps they can take to protect their children from unintentional medication overdoses.
