Today, CDC launched an exciting education program protecting children from unintentional medication overdoses – Up and Away and Out of Sight.
Each year, one of every 150 two-year-olds visits an emergency department for an unintentional medication overdose, most often after finding and eating or drinking medicines without adult supervision. Dr. Dan Budnitz, director of CDC’s Medication Safety Program, blogs that many children get into medicine when adults forget to follow simple steps such as closing the child-resistant packaging and putting medicine up and away—out of children’s sight and reach.
