Surveillance for Certain Health Behaviors Among States and Selected Local Areas — United States, 2008
|

Each year, seven of 10 deaths in the United States are the result of chronic diseases. The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), conducted by state health departments with assistance from CDC, is the largest state-based surveillance system in the United States and the world’s largest continuously collected cross-sectional telephone survey. This report presents results for 2008 BRFSS data for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the
U.S.
Virgin Islands, 177 metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas (MMSAs), and 266 counties.
