Prevalence of Selected Risk Behaviors and Chronic Diseases and Conditions—Steps Communities, United States, 2006–2007
The Steps BRFSS survey instrument is a modified version of the BRFSS state-based survey and includes standardized questions related to the three diseases and outcomes (obesity, diabetes, and asthma) and the three related risk factors (physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use and exposure). BRFSS uses a disproportionate stratified sample design to select a representative sample of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population aged ≥18 years. During
2006–2007, two of 40 Steps communities conducted a survey to collect adult health outcome data. The findings in this report underscore the continued need to evaluate prevention interventions at the community level and to design and implement policies to promote and encourage healthy behaviors.
