CDC.gov Features deliver actionable and timely health, safety and wellness messages.  Here is a preview of the CDC.gov Health and Safety features of the week:

Food Deserts  ~ If you struggle with finding affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lowfat milk and other healthier foods, the important thing to remember is that you can still take steps to improve your diet.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease ~ Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a contagious viral illness that commonly affects infants and children. While there is no vaccine to prevent the disease, there are simple steps you and your family can take to reduce the risk of getting sick.

Hemochromatosis Screening  ~ July is hemochromatosis (iron storage disease) awareness month. Hemochromatosis occurs when the body absorbs too much iron from foods (and other sources such as vitamins containing iron). If this iron buildup is untreated, it can, over many years, damage the body's organs. Learn the symptoms and how to stay healthy.

Hurricane Preparedness ~ You can't stop a tropical storm or hurricane, but you can take steps now to protect yourself and your family.

Improving Health Literacy  ~ Every day, we hear, see or read health information that is supposed to help us but often is confusing or doesn’t answer our questions. Now we have a national plan to improve health information and health literacy.

Summertime Safety  ~ Whether you're relaxing in the backyard, turning up your garden, enjoying the pool, or exploring the great outdoors, here are some ways to help keep you and your family healthy this spring and summer.

CDC.gov feature articles are written by subject matter experts and health communicators, then edited to emphasize strong call-to-action messages and friendly, meaningful visuals. While most features are topic- or event-driven, some capture the full scope of CDC's work on cross-cutting topics such as staying healthy and safe over the holidays, sending kids back to school, or CDC's global programs and outreach. CDC Features may be syndicated to other Web sites at no cost. Learn more about Content Syndication
