Title: CDC Safe Healthcare Blog: Red Bugs with No Drugs

This week on CDC’s Safe Healthcare Blog, Dr. Arjun Srinivasan, starts a series on Gram-negative bacterial infections.   Best known by the name “Gram negatives” (due to the red color they turn in the laboratory when a Gram stain is used), the most threatening ones include Acinetobacter, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, and Escherichia

Dr. Srinivasan, Associate Director for Prevention Programs within CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, has investigated numerous outbreaks within healthcare settings.  In this blog, he states, “There are few pathogens that give me pause anymore.   However, Gram-negative bacteria are different.”
