PCBs ~ Non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are no longer produced in the United States, but they can still be found in the environment. PCBs are either solids or oily liquids that are colorless to light yellow. PCBs also can exist as vapor in air. PCBs were used as coolants and lubricants in transformers, capacitors, and other electrical equipment because they do not burn easily and are good insulators. In 1977, the United States stopped the manufacture of PCBs because of evidence that they built up in the environment and could harm health.

Global Efforts to Control and Prevent Rabies ~ World Rabies Day is September 28. On this day, begin to take the steps to keep yourself and your family free from rabies. Look for events in your area that provide an opportunity to celebrate World Rabies Day and get the facts on rabies prevention and control.

Emergency Preparedness and Bleeding Disorders ~ National Preparedness Month is held each September to help you know what to do during an emergency or a disaster (such as a flood or fire). This year's activities aim to help you and others like you learn what it truly means to be Ready.

Recognize and Prevent MRSA Infections ~ As kids head back to classrooms and sports venues, parents are encouraged to learn how to recognize and prevent skin infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics.
